  • Breastfeeding at Work

Employers are required, where it is practical and reasonable, to give female employees extra breaks and proper facilities so they can breastfeed and/or produce milk in a safe, private and hygienic environment.

The nature and extent of a breastfeeding arrangement will depend on the workplace itself and the resources available to the company. The Code of Employment Practice on Infant Feeding goes into great detail about the obligations and responsibilities of the employer.

Breastfeeding arrangements should be made with the full support of all staff. They should have a clear understanding of what to expect and be able to express their concerns.
